Turkish Document Apostille for Belgium

Belgium is a Hague Apostille Convention member. For most Turkish public documents destined for use there, a single apostille is sufficient — no Belgian embassy or consulate step in Ankara is required.

Belgium does not have one language rule. The receiving commune or region does.

The process

1. Sworn translation into Dutch, French, or German — matching the receiving commune or authority, not a guessed “Belgium default”
2. Notarization of the translator’s signature
3. Apostille, issued by the provincial administration (kaymakamlık/valilik) for most document types, or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for certain categories such as university diplomas and some official-body documents

What to check before assuming this is all you need

• Language follows the receiving office — a Flanders commune, a Walloon commune, and a Brussels authority can each require a different language. Translating into the wrong one wastes the apostille chain. Get the commune’s written requirement first.
• FPS Foreign Affairs in Belgium is not the Turkish apostille issuer. The Turkish kaymakamlık/valilik or Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues the apostille on the Turkish document. Do not send the file to Brussels for a Turkish apostille.
• Civil-status extracts are often wanted within a recent window. Apostille a stale nüfus extract and the commune may still refuse it.

• Adjudicative/legal documents (court rulings, criminal record certificates) use a different apostille authority than standard documents — confirm before starting.
