Turkish Document Apostille for Spain
Spain is a Hague Apostille Convention member. For most Turkish public documents destined for use there, a single apostille is sufficient — no Spanish embassy or consulate step in Ankara is required.
Extranjería, Registro Civil, and some notaries still reject files when the apostille is on the wrong sheet.
The process
- Sworn translation into Spanish (Catalan or another co-official language only if the receiving office has asked for it in writing)
- Notarization of the translator’s signature
- Apostille, issued by the provincial administration (kaymakamlık/valilik) for most document types, or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for certain categories such as university diplomas and some official-body documents
What to check before assuming this is all you need
- Which sheet is apostilled — many extranjería and NIE files want the apostille on the original Turkish document. Apostille-on-translation-only is a frequent counter rejection. Confirm before the provincial office stamps the file.
- Recent civil-status extracts — birth and marriage certificates should be newly issued for many Spanish registrars. An apostille on a years-old extract does not make the extract current.
- Language of the translation is set by the receiving office, not by a single national rule. Catalonia vs the rest of Spain does not change which Turkish authority issues the apostille; it can change the language they will file.
- University diplomas follow a different chain — see our diploma legalization guide.
- Adjudicative/legal documents (court rulings, criminal record certificates) use a different apostille authority than standard documents — confirm before starting.

Apostille requirements are generally stable but always confirm current requirements with the specific Spanish receiving institution before finalizing a document.
